The Pipes & Drums of the 1st Royal Engineers has been our band’s name since 1987 when we were appointed an honorary band of this Stockholm regiment (now disbanded). However, we trace our ancestry back to 1968 when the band was founded by Per Colliander under the name of Thistle Pipe Band. (Read more under history).

1st Royal Engineers is a pipe band with approximately 50 bandsmen and learners. We perform all over Sweden and abroad and teach piping and drumming at our premises in Stockholm.

One important aim for the band is to compete regularly. Every year we travel to compete at the Scandinavian Championships and in Scotland. In 2001 we were rewarded with a World Champions title in grade 3a, and since then our A-band competes in grade 2. The B-band competes in grade 4.

1st Royal Engineers wear the Government tartan "Black Watch", originally created for the 42nd Highland Regiment.
