Swedish
Of course we wear kilts – our audience expects it – it is part of the spectacle of a pipe band performing, regardless whether they are Scotsmen or Swedes. But Highland dress is also a bond that unites pipers and drummers in a worldwide friendship.

Our uniform is a civilian Highland dress. 1st Royal Engineers wear kilts with white hose and a white shirt, a black Argyll jacket, band tie and Glengarry bonnet.

Because of the band’s military connection we retain some regimental details of dress such as cap badge and tie and on very formal occasions we wear a full dress uniform with feather bonnets. We also wear a tartan with a military background – the Governmant Tartan, "Black Watch".

Swedish traditional costume – often worn by folk musicians and dancers here – is a lot more conservative than Highland dress and basically adhers to rules laid down in the late 1800s. These formal costumes of rural Sweden are associated with a particular village or county.
